SUMMARY:Sustainability of Haydite & Internal Curing for Improving Concrete Durability (2-CEU)
DESCRIPTION:Session 1 – Lightweight Aggregate for Sustainability (11:00am-12:00pm):
This presentation will overview how concrete contributes sustainable and critical infrastructure resilience with a specific focus on the contributions provided by lightweight aggregate. A variety of topics will be discussed including how lightweight aggregates used in concrete specifically improve durability, insulating properties, fire resistance, and even slip and fall performance. We will also discuss how concrete contributes to and can help mitigate a number of regional issues such as urban flooding and the urban heat island.
Session 2 – Internal Curing for Improving Concrete Durability (12:00pm- 1:00pm):
When we look back on this era of concrete technology, internal curing will be considered one of the most revolutionary techniques for improving concrete properties. Rarely is a single technique able to provide as many benefits and especially at the cost point for internal curing. This presentation will overview the mechanisms of action for internal curing including a discussion of improvements to strength, reduction in shrinkage, and ability to improve durability when incorporating lightweight aggregates. We will discuss appropriate applications, mix designs for internal curing, and pros and cons of various available materials.
At the end of this webinar attendees will have a better understanding of how internal curing using lightweight aggregate can be used to create a more resilient infrastructure and where to find more information for design and specification.
These presentations are suitable for attendees with any level of concrete or sustainable infrastructure background and is worth 2-PDHs.
